Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born as the eighth son of Vasudeva and Devaki in Mathura to end the chaos and evil in the world, and so Lord Krishna's birth is considered to be an auspicious Hindu festival. Devotees celebrate Janmashtami by fasting till midnight on this day.
